경상국립대학교는 6월 5일 오전 가좌캠퍼스 대학본부 3층 접견실에서 ‘해외 우수대학과 국제교류 네트워크 협력’이라는 주제로 ‘미국 콜럼버스주립대(CSU, Columbus State University) 총장 일행 방문 행사’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이날 행사에는 경상국립대 권진회 총장을 비롯해 대학본부 보직자와 콜럼버스주립대 총장, 최고운영책임자, 국제협력처장, 정책/정의 및 공공안정학부 교수 등 5명이 참석했다. 행사는 개회, 내빈 소개, 홍보영상 시청, 국제교류 협력방안 논의, 기념촬영, 캠퍼스 투어 등의 순으로 1시간 동안 진행됐다.
이에 앞서 경상국립대는 6월 4일 오후 진주시 주관으로 콜럼버스주립대, 진주시, K-기업가정신재단과 함께 4자 간 공동 업무협약을 체결했다. 이번 협약은 양 도시 간 교육, 산업 등 분야의 교류 및 협력을 증진하고 이를 지속적으로 발전시켜 나가기 위한 공동의 의지를 바탕으로 추진됐다.
콜럼버스주립대 총장 일행은 4자 간 공동 업무협약에 이어 6월 5일 경상국립대학교를 공식 방문하여 총장 접견 및 캠퍼스 투어를 진행했다. 양 대학 총장의 이번 만남은 해외 우수 대학과의 국제교류 네트워크를 구축하고, 양교 간 학술·학생 교류 협정 체결을 위한 실질적인 논의의 출발점이 될 것으로 기대된다.
경상국립대 권진회 총장은 “이번 협약과 접견을 통해 해외 유수 대학과의 글로벌 네트워크를 더욱 강화하고, 글로컬 특성화 대학으로의 도약은 물론, 재학생에게도 폭넓은 학문적·산업적 기회를 제공하는 기반이 마련될 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
콜럼버스주립대는 미국 조지아주 콜럼버스시에 위치한 공립대학이다. 1958년 설립된 이래 예술, 경영, 교육, 과학 등 다양한 분야에서 우수한 교육 프로그램을 제공하고 있다. 학생은 전체 약 8000명(학부생 약 6000명)에 달한다. 현재 90개 이상의 학부 및 대학원 과정을 운영하고 있으며, 지역사회와의 협력 및 글로벌 파트너십 강화에 힘쓰고 있다.

Gyeongsang National University (GNU) announced that on June 5, it welcomed a delegation from Columbus State University (CSU), USA, as part of its initiative to build an international exchange network with leading global institutions. The visit took place at the reception room on the third floor of the University Headquarters at the Gajwa Campus.
The event was attended by GNU President Jin-Hoi Kwon, university administrators, and five representatives from CSU, including the President, Chief Operating Officer, Director of International Programs, and professors from the Department of Political Science and Public Safety. The one-hour program included opening remarks, guest introductions, a university promotional video, discussions on international cooperation, a commemorative photo session, and a campus tour.
On the previous day, June 4, the City of Jinju hosted a four-party Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony involving CSU, GNU, the City of Jinju, and the K-Entrepreneurship Foundation. The MOU aims to promote collaborative efforts in education and industry between the two cities and to support ongoing mutual development.
Following the MOU signing, the CSU delegation officially visited GNU on June 5 for a formal meeting with President Kwon and a guided campus tour. This meeting marks a significant step toward establishing a practical framework for academic and student exchange programs between the two universities.
President Kwon stated, “This agreement and visit serve to strengthen our global network with distinguished international universities. It also paves the way for GNU’s transformation into a globally engaged institution and provides our students with greater academic and industrial opportunities.”
Columbus State University, located in Columbus, Georgia, USA, is a public institution founded in 1958.
